8 WAYS CATS SHOW THEIR LOVE

cat and love

Cats have a reputation for being aloof and not caring about their humans. However, this is simply not the case. In fact, cats have many ways of showing their affection, but not everyone knows how to recognize the signs. Here are eight unique ways cats show their love.

Tail language. A cat’s tail can tell you a lot about how it’s feeling. If your kitty walks toward you with its tail high in the air with its end tipped over, it’s a sure sign they love you. Bunting. This is when your cat rubs its face or body on you or gently butts you with its head. Kitties do this on people or animals they love as a way to mark their territory. Kneading with its paws. Kittens knead against the mother to encourage milk production. They continue this behaviour into adulthood when they’re feeling particularly happy and relaxed, usually in the presence of their favourite person. Purring. Possibly the most recognizable sign of love and happiness, cats often purr while being petted. Beware, however, on rare occasions, some cats purr when they’re upset. Sleeping on your lap. Cats are at their most vulnerable when they’re asleep. Therefore, sleeping on your lap is a sign that Mittens feels extremely safe and comfortable around you. Grooming you. The bond between cats is strengthened by mutual grooming. This behaviour builds trust and creates a common, family scent. When cats groom their favourite people, they’re marking them as an important part of the family group. Slowly blinking. Cats only make eye contact with those they love and trust. When your cat stares at you with half-closed eyes and slowly blinks repeatedly, it’s sure sign they love you. You can return the love by blinking slowly back at your cat. Hanging out with you. Just because your cat doesn’t sit on your lap doesn’t mean it doesn’t love you. Some cats prefer to show their affection by making sure to always be in the same room as their people.
